Coffee Buying

The vast majority of our coffee doesn’t come from our farm but instead comes from buying coffee from local farmers.  Not all coffee buying is the same (do they buy coffee cherry, parchment, green?).  In order to ensure the quality of the coffee and make sure the money meant for farmers doesn’t get taken by a middleman, Ban Hao buys coffee cherries directly from farmers and then processes it in the village at our local wet-mill.  By working with farmers throughout the year, we help them to understand the value of picking only ripe cherries as well as planting proper genetics.  Because producing quality coffee is more time consuming and valuable, we pay farmers accordingly.  Each year we buy coffee for almost double what they would otherwise get selling to other local buyers.
